Can't save files as PDFs in Photoshop?

Have you seen commercials where people smash their computer to bits? I had a couple of days of feeling like that! I couldn't figure out what had happened. I had been saving files as PDFs in Photoshop for years, all of a sudden, it's not an option any more! WTF! I uninstalled the program, reinstalled it, read everything I could find on Google to fix it, but nothing worked. Finally, my brilliant son told me I should contact support at Adobe. (But you know you have to do it the hard way first, right?) They were very helpful and told me what was going on right away. Anyway... turns out to be a ver…

Which way: Mission or Vision?

A company's mission and vision statements are a great point of reference when choosing which direction to go. A determining factor to success in business is the ability to utilize skills for the greater development of the community, and to make a significant positive impact. Service is implicitly foundational. They say it takes a village to raise a child, and the same goes for business expansion.

If rule #1 in business is survival, you had better have a strong team with superior skills to back you up.  Sometimes, the best way to protect your resources is…

A little kindness.

I was at the store last night, waiting in the check-out lane feeling a little annoyed that they only had about 5 lanes open. My son asked me for the keys so he could go sit in the car and wait for me there. As he was walking away, a woman and her son came toward us, she said something to my son, and he pointed at me. The woman was in one of those electric carts people ride in for assistance. She was frantic. She said, “Please let me go ahead of you in line... I have to get to the airport. My sister is coming in on a flight, and I haven’t seen her in a very long time.” I thought, oh well, i…

Scammer Alert - Designers Beware

Designers, web developers, creatives beware, there is a scammer trying to take advantage of us. If that nagging voice in the back of your head starts talking about "this is just too good to be true" listen to your gut! Check out this link: This has been going on for years now. I had no idea that Scammers were going to such lengths! This guy was "talking the talk"... "bells" did go off early, but it could have been a real project enquiry, with so much business being done over the internet because of COVID, I gave him the benefit of t…

Collaboration with Michiana Saver

One of the things I really love about working with the Michiana Saver is that I get to collaborate with some really great people. Tony Nhenga at Nhenga Media is one of them. Tony and I put this double-page spread together for this client Rain Drain. I love the way it turned out. Make sure you check it out in the September 2020 Issue of the Michiana Saver. If you don't receive the magazine in your mailbox, you can pick one up at several locations listed on the Homepage of the Michiana Saver website.

You've got the idea...

Do you remember when you first had the idea for your business? The excitement you felt. These times are hard. I know. We feel it too, but it's so important to not give up on your dreams. Keep your commitment and determination to make it work! Stay away from people who don't share your enthusiasm. If your confidence is low, build it up! Feed your soul with positive energy from reading books or publications that help. I've been listening to a Napoleon Hill book on my lunch hour for weeks now. I'm on the second go-around with the book, and I'll probably listen to it again when I am done, or c…

Dream Boards

I'm sure you have heard of "Dream Boards", if not, they are visualization tools to keep your goals and ideas on your mind... A form of inspiration or affirmation. My son and I work from home, but part of my dream is to someday own a building where we can house the members of the Michiana Graphic Design Group. Right now, the 1.2 second commute to my "office" is a big perk to working from home, and I like being at home if I am "burning the mid-night oil" to make a deadline... so we will have to wait and see. Anyway, it was fun to look around at office ideas... here are some images I found o…

It's been a while...

Shortly after I started this design agency, my Dad passed away. I knew that my timing to start this new venture was "off", and I was going to need time to weather a storm of grief. So I decided to take a leave of absence. My dream has been patiently waiting ... and now I am ready to start anew. There is no perfect time to start a business, and these times, they are trying, but I know I can survive them, because I will be helping other small business owners to survive these times too... and that is a mighty motivator. So yes, my friend, if you need help letting people know you are op…

Keeping your sense of Humor

I was reading an article at today, “8 Highly Effective Business Success Tips for Entrepreneurs” ( and one of those tips was to “Keep your sense of humor.” Laughing keeps the stress level down, strengthens your emotional and mental well-being, keeps people from getting under your skin, and keeps you cool and collected and more fun to be around.

A good belly laugh is so refreshing isn’t it? I love it when something tickles me so much that I just can’t stop laughing. I remember my husband and I laughed so much t…

BNI Meeting

Do you have a local BNI (Business Network International) group in your area? If you are a small business owner, these groups are a great way to network and get referrals. I went as a guest today to a local meeting held at the Morris Park Country Club. They meet once a week for lunch and share ideas, talk about their businesses, give each other referrals, joke around, and have fun! It was a great experience. Here is a link to the BNI website: if you would like to learn more about BNI.
